Этымалогія
Саманазва армян — Հայ (hay), па здагадках, пайшла ад назвы народа — хаяса. Краіна Хаяса і народ хаясы згадваюцца на глінянай хетскай табліцы, якая адносіцца да другога тысячагоддзя да нашай эры, яна была знойдзена пры раскопках сталіцы хетскай дзяржавы — .
Назва краіны Армінія, у якой пражывалі арміны, сустракаецца ўпершыню ў Бехістунскім надпісе персідскага цара Дарыя I, у 522 да н.э. Існуе таксама гістарычны надпіс, які называе рэгіён Армянскага нагор’я Арменіяй, Шумерскага Нарам-Суена, датаваны , на тысячу гадоў апераджаючы першае згадванне Урарту. Герадот (V ст. да.н.э.) называе іх арменамі. Аб Арменіі і побыце армян гэтага ж перыяду важныя звесткі паведамляе Ксенафонт.
